2025 Album of the year: dopamine

Albums that flow sequentially through each song like an ocean wave tend to supersede all that don’t. Lil Tecca figured out how to make one sound good even if it’s on shuffle. Dopamine raised the bar of replay value with all 17 tracks taking you through a different dimension of hip-hop that only has his name written all over it. My favorite songs, you ask? Let’s get into it.

Favorites: 1-11, 13-15

Least Favorites:

#12 “On Your Own” (which is when I mentally told Tecca he was on his own lol),

#16 “Malibu’s Most Wanted” (not a terrible song. It just doesn’t do it for me like the other tracks. Felt like something was missing.).

#17 “Tic Tac Toe” I expected more from Tecca and Ken Carson collaboration. It made me feel like they tried the “less is more” approach, but did a bit too less than what was needed to make this a banger. Both of their individual work is amazing on it’s own, so I wish they got a bit more creative with the beat.

Regardless of my faves and least faves of the album, one thing that’s undeniable is how crispy his album rollout is. I must admit, I didn’t follow Tecca until today, July 1st. So I’m catching up on all the hype around Dopamine, and am late to the party of knowing he already began his tour for the album. Is it just me or did the music industry shorten the amount of time between an album dropping and tour dates releasing? I believe that’s due to people’s attention spans and maybe the metrics behind how much time is recommended to be spent from point A to B. I would love to do another article researching that and interviewing some key voices in the music realm. ANYWAY-

I love Tecca’s aesthetics. I feel that he always had the sauce. I always enjoyed listening to his music and felt like he was something different than the rest.
