Growing older has made me realize how important it is to “die” daily, aka do self-work. It involves coming to terms with the negative parts of ourselves that we don’t want to admit are there: judgment, gossip, jealousy, selfishness, insecurity, etc. It’s realizing what experiences we’ve had growing up and/or in the past that have caused our negative characteristics/behaviors, admitting our bitterness & pain & healing those parts of ourselves. It’s literally killing off the parts of our minds that don’t serve our highest good or that of the people around us.
It’s truly “dirty” work bc it’s not meant to make us feel comfortable at all. We’re supposed to feel frustrated & embarrassed & cry it out when we face our ugly sides (& yes we ALL have them). That’s why the majority of people don’t do it. It involves making the effort to check yourself daily, & just as importantly (and my personal favorite), keeping a strict distance from those who don’t desire to evolve.
